congratulation

“Congratulations to you too”, he said, as he washed his fruit to prepare the typical morning smoothie after his exercise.
My daughter had received four different offers from various universities, since she was awarded a National Hispanic Scholar distinction.
“This is also the result of your dedication all those afternoons with them, and your hard work into making sure that they both had good working habits, and a strong foundation in their studies…”He continued talking about how he never got any offers, and how uncommon was to get this type of economic incentives…. His voice got lost behind the sound of the blender and her thoughts.
What I never expected to hear was that I would get the credit, even when I had dedicated all those afternoons to my daughters, even if it was really a merit of my efforts and my dedication, because at the end of the day I had done all this as part of my desire to be part of my children’s life, to enjoy what had been the most selfish decision of my life, to be a mother.
He handed me the glass with the purple drink and said “Good job!” and smile with satisfaction, with love, and kiss my forehead. “You have been a great mom!”
I blushed, and smiled and said “thank you, I would have never done it without you.”
