And so is the
power of the image.... I can't get over the fact that nowadays people are so
consume with their image that they forget to be real.
I love the fact
that we have such a technology that allows people who are far away to shorten
the distance, I am one to post images in my own page where I share with my
family and friends vacation times, celebrations, etc.
But in this era
where image has such a power, people feel compelled to go as far as they can to
introduce themselves through this media and share an amazing amount of pictures
of themselves, posing in all kinds of positions, as if they were actually
selling something. The images then extend to the messages left for others in a
section called “my status”. I do not get it! Where is that people lost
perspective of how important may be what they do or not to the rest of the
world? Where is that people lost sight of when would it be appropriate to
announce it to the entire world, (as if we have such an importance), what are
they doing, where do they go, what do they eat, how do they spend their free
time? I mean, who does really care?
For example if it
is somebody’s birthday, why not just go and post in that persons wall the nice
happy birthday message without having to post in their own site “today is such
an such b-day…” is not about them right? Or is it?
Images can say
many things, but the one thing that these images really tell nowadays is how
self-centered people are.
We cultivate an
image, and in this media, the public media, we feel the pressure to be “pretty”
and we live up to that expectation. Young people that post a picture that is showered
with comments of how beautiful you are, translates into success. Young parents
post pictures of their children (young girls or young boys) and they even label
it as “my beautiful child!” or “isn’t she a beauty?”
Funny thing we
tiredly tell children and ourselves that beauty comes from within. I guess we forget
that the pictures are not a real image, or a complete image of who we are, and
what we do or think may not be that important to others as we wish to believe.
Sometimes I have
asked my self how come people don’t post their pictures when they just woke up,
or at the end of their day, when they look tired and sorry for themselves?
Image… who you
really are? Is that your image or is that you?
